***May Round Robin Challenge at Swirlydoos***

Hello all,

So here I am sat here at home with a bad case of Laryngitis, no voice and having come home from work early as trying to communicate with the customers in the café was proving rather difficult and the heat today was making a rough me feel faint, I thought I'd sit quietly and show you my latest layout as I cannot sit and do NOTHING!

Today I want to share with you my layout for the Swirlydoos Kit Club May Round Robin Challenge.

I was on Team 1 and creating on Week 3 following fellow team members Kathi and Kim.

We have a theme and some twists to the challenge every month.

This month we had have:

THEME: 40% white space with mixed media.

TWISTS:  * Spring, fun photos

* Swirly style layout

* Embellish but don't over embellish

The idea is to 'lift' the layout of your previous team mates, meet the  theme/twists criteria and to interpret it with your photo and choice of papers.

Now for some details and close up's.

I kept exactly to the design that Kathi originally designed and Kim also kept to. I liked the 'cross' effect design. In both Kathi's and Kim's layouts they had used an embellishment to the right that mimicked an element from their photo. I used a lattice die to mimic the design of the metal chair that DD Holly is sat on.  

The chippie was also another major part of the 'lifted' layout.

I used this Dusty Attic piece which I first painted with gesso and then covered with Silver Pearl embossing powder. I then used two different colours of mica powder which I added very quickly whilst the embossing powder was still warm and tacky and it has stuck on!

The antique doily I thought matched Holly's tiara perfectly so all I did was alter the colour to match with some of the paler mica powder by simply rubbing it over!

I copied the punched border to the vertical banners with a different design, mine was done with a edge die.

The original 2 layout didn't have any mixed media on... well you know me....I couldn't resist especially as it was on the brief! So I added a minimal amount to the sides of my banners. I also added a few splats with a Prima Color Bloom mist, just softly in the background, the one I used was Peony, it is very subtle in the background.

Here is the top piece of the chippie showing the effect with the embossing power and the mica powder.

I tried to keep the flowers and the embellishments to a minimum as required, which is quite difficult for me! But on this occasion, less is more!

I love tis die that I used for the swirl flourish, it just finishes of the flower clusters perfectly! And cut with the script print from one of the Something Blue papers adds a nice effect.

All my edges were distressed as probably expected of one of my layouts!

This is a photo that my parents took of Holly when visiting them. She was having a good chuckle about something! A lovely fun smiling photo!

** March Round Robin Challenge at Swirlydoos**

Hello again!

I seem to be having a little flurry of blog posts in the last 48 hours!

Todays is my layout created for the Swirlydoos March Round Robin Challenge.

This is  fun monthly team challenge of 3/4 players in a team and usually 3/4 teams play every month, and the idea is to 'lift' the layout from the previous person on your team. 

I am on Team 1 and doing Week 2 following teammate Sherri.

So the theme this month was 'Going Green'. We had to use the colour green in our layout somewhere, use green foliage and 'be green' by using a recycled something on your layout and to use a an outdoor photo.

And here it is .....

Here are some close ups.

I did a lot of fussy cutting from these A Ladies Diary papers and then layered them up with foam pads to create that 3d effect backed with the cheesecloth. The Wycinanka title was painted with gesso.

My recycled items were the sparkly strand material that was decorating an Bath Fizz Ball at Christmas! This changes light in different lights and has a green look to it. My other recycled piece was the rose flower cluster with bow that came of a card I received a long time ago!

I followed the flow of these lines from Sherri's layout (she used a leaf garland) and made my pearl heart with Nuvo Crystal drops.

Sherri had used paper weaving on her layout so I did mine slightly differently by using chequers from the Ladies Diary papers creating a similar look to keep the theme going. All my edges were distressed with my trusty Prima distress tool.

Some of the fussy cutting was quite intricate but well worth the effort.

***Round Robin Challenge at Swirlydoos***

Today I'm sharing my layout created for the Round Robin (RR) challenge at Swirlydoos Kit Club

I am Week 3 on Team 1 following Jan and Bec's amazing layouts.

I was super excited and inspired to be following Bec's super pretty layout and with the theme and twists of this months RR, this layout was a joy to make!

This months RR theme was all about love. We had to use some of our most loved scrapbooking supplies we love to hoard instead of using, and a technique we love to use to.

We then had to any or all of these colours: red, Pink, Black, or White.

So here's my layout:

I used all the colours!

One of my favourite techniques is heat embossing, a basic technique but so useful and effective especially for chipboard. I love all the colours we can get in embossing powders nowadays! I used two embossing powders on this layout, a white on the title and decorative elements and a pink on the Allium flower chipboard.

My paper collection I used for this layout was Dovecraft Sweet Paris collection. I adore this paper collection, and yes, I have been hoarding it for a while. I bought the whole collection when it first came out and have only done one layout with it up until now!

Now for the photo, my gorgeous DD so of course I love her a lot!

Here are some close ups. 

These pictures show all the layering of the embellishments. The stencilling on the background with texture paste and a prima stencil. The layering of the wood frames with the Allium chipboard flower on top and then the title chippie with the heart stick pins make the layout really 'deep'.

The photo is matted twice on Centura Pearl cardstock with the edges distressed. I then decorated the photo with some gorgeous pieces of Add to dictionary chipboard which was embossed with white embossing powder. I altered the colour of my photo to this vintage colouring using PicMonkey.

The buttons all had some cord tied through them and were layered up on some paper flowers of various designs.

I love the little Eiffle tower metal charm from the Sweet Paris collection! The Prima butterfly I slotted in between the mat layers of the photo. This mimicked both Bec and Jan who had put a butterfly in the same place.

**The RR (Round Robin) Challenge at Swirlydoos Kit Club**

Hello all!

The RR (Round Robin) challenge is back this month! Yay!

Here is how it works,  the first person creates their layout based on the theme and twist and posts it on the due date. The next person on the team “lifts” or uses the first layout as a blue print to create their layout and so on. So each person “lifts” the person before them. There are four people to a team to take us through the month with each person getting a week to create their masterpiece.

Here's my layout for TEAM 3 WEEK 1

My new beginning is really for Holly (DD). She has had a torrid time the last few years suffering with Acute Tonsillitis bringing on her asthma as well, which has led to a lot of time off school and hospital visits and generally being really ill a lot. In December as many of you know, she finally had her tonsils out, which was equally traumatic! So now we are looking forward to a new start this year with NO tonsillitis! This photo is of Holly in hospital on the evening she had her tonsils out after two trips into the theatre! She looks remarkable bright, bless her!

I used a lot of the Swirlydoos December kit on this layout. The papers, the larger blue flowers and the beaded blue flower. I used mixed media, TH Distress Grit Paste stencilling, pink acrylic paint, pink Art Sugar on the hearts, gesso on the chippie, and stamping with Black Soot distress Ink in the background. There is metal on the beaded blue flower. Lots of flowers, chipboard and bling with the sequins and crystals for a Swirly style LO!

Round robin at Swirlydoos

Hello everyone!

Today I'm sharing my layout for the Round Robin challenge at Swirlydoos kit club.

I have the pleasure of being on Week 1 this month and starting my Team 2 off with a soft pretty layout using Blue Fern Studio papers from Courtship Lane and Serendipity.
The theme is 'Anything Goes' so complete freedom this month.
There are some twists too, these being,
* grunge it up or true swirly style - I chose the latter!
* Use a recent photo - I have had this photo of me and my hubby for a few weeks to scrap so decided to use it for this.
* embellish embellish embellish - lots of flowers and yummy things on my layout!
* keep the colours light bright & cheerful - well I think I've done that!

The background BFS paper was from my own stash but the papers used for all the layers and banners were my leftovers from the BFS Courtship Lane and Serendipity papers in my Swirlydoos April kit.

I love layers and have done multiple layers on my banners, some lifted up with foam tape to add dimension and all of them inked up on the edges.

All but one flower are from previous Swirlydoos kits as are the wood icons, the crystal hearts, pink crystal bead trim, pearl trim and the Prima Rub-ons with pink foil. 

I used a TCW stencil on the background with texture paste and then some splatters with gesso and two different colours of Shimmerz Inklingz.

The chippie is from Fabscraps and covered with some white embossing powder and then brushed over lightly with the pink Inklingz.

One for the Dads!

Hi all,

I am going back a couple of weeks to show you this layout I created for the June Round Robin (RR) challenge at .Swirlydoos kit club. The theme was 'All about Dads' as Fathers Day was in June.
Here is my layout with a photo of me with my Dad many years ago, for Team 3 Week 3, following fellow Swirly girls, LaQuette and Jan.

I followed LaQuette and Jan's layout fairly closely, but I did flip the design to work from the right hand side of the page and not the left. I used the same stencil as well.

I kept the page masculine but with a pop of colour from the orange flowers to bring out the marigolds in the photo.

Lots of distressing and heavy inking and masking with texture paste.

I used Kaisercraft papers from the Time Machine collection.

The papers and Stencil used for the texture paste are from previous Swirlydoos kits.

There are loads of layers in this layout! The embellishments are just layered up on top of each other to create a great effect! I love looking through a layout trying to work out what layer went on first!

I used lots of textures too, bakers twine, plastic string, a netting and a loose burlap weave. Here are a few more photos close up to see the layers.

My chipboard star, (which was made by the 'Southern Ridge Trading Co' and was part of my prize for winning a Sketch Challenge at Swirlydoos) was covered with embossing powder and then I mucked around with some Walnut Stain Distress Stain and then finished with dabbing over in places with some Gold 'Viva Precious Metal Colour' paint.

The hinge just had the Viva Gold paint on it.

Round Robin at Swirlydoos

Happy Sunday!

Good evening, I hope you've all had a lovely Sunday, mine has been productive and Im happy with all the jobs I have got done today! I have even got 2 layouts done today!
This is the first one, my layout for Swirlydoos kit club Round Robin challenge for Team 2 Week 3.
I had the pleasure of following fellow Swirly girls Cheryl and Andie, to create my lift of their layouts.
Here it is,

This months Round Robin is all about Mother and daughters as its Mothers day in the USA this month. We then also had to try include bling, distressing, spring colours and loads of flowers! Also to use some of our beloved stashed Swirlydoos goodies!

This photo is me and my Mum Christmas 2013, when my Mum opened her Christmas pressie that I had made her - a Kaisercraft drawer set. She loved it! :)

So all my papers are from previous Swirlydoos kits, the background paper being a Kaisercraft paper,

In fact everything is from previous Swirly kits apart from the pink paper roses and the mixed media.

I used a Prima stencil and texture paste on the backround with Tattered Angels mist Creme de Rouge and Prima Color Bloom Glistening Waves,

I used a Martha Stewart punch for the decorative border.

My journaling is on the tag slipped behind the photo.

I used Liquid Pearls Petal Pink  on the Bobuny laser cut butterfly.

My Creative Embellishments chippies I covered with a Lindy's pink embossing powder and then highlighted with a Teal 3d paint.

My edges were very lightly distressed and then inked with Distress Ink Walnut Stain.

I found these pretty pearls set on wire in my stash and thought they were perfect for the bling.
