Mixed Media Canvas For Tres Jolie

Hello All!

Here is my last project made with the June Kit from Tres Jolie Kits.

This is my second project made with the Mixed Media Kit..... a canvas.

I thoroughly enjoyed doing this project, it was so much fun!

So lets go through step by step and I can show you how the end result was achieved!

I started by painting the 5x7 inch canvas with clear gesso.

I used the two brown Alcohol Inks from the Mixed Media Kit, Caramel and Latte. 

I added a blue, Stonewashed and a mixative, Gold, from my stash as well.

I sprinkled droplets of the two inks, Caramel and Latte onto the canvas.

I then used some blending solution over the ink droplets to make them 'run'.

This solution was also from stash but is handy when working with alcohol inks.

This is what the canvas looked like after the blue and gold had been added with more blending solution. 

I cut the leaves and flowers from 13 Arts paper...…..

like so.....

and the flowers....

I then used the texture paste from the Mixed Media Kit with a stencil  to add more detail across the layout. 

To adhere the fussy cut leaves and flowers to the canvas I used a gel medium and used it underneath and over the top of the cut pieces to completely stick them and protect them on the canvas.

The butterflies from the Prima set I did slightly differently to each other. The big butterfly I painted the concave parts with the gold Mixative. the smaller one I gently rubbed the gold over the risen pattern only wit my finger.

Then using a piece of cloth I then gently rubbed in some of the blue alcohol ink around the risen borders of the butterflies in various depths of strength. 

I glued these to the canas with my hot glue gun.

Next I used these Microspheres from the Mixed Media kit....

a poured/sprinkled them where I wanted them into already applied gel medium. 

The medium will take a while to dry but will dry clear leaving just the microspheres.

And I created a butterfly trail with them too!

Thus erse was cut from the paper I showed you earlier too and I inked round the edges with the gold mixative.

I popped it on a piece of cardboard to add height and glued onto the canvas.

Mixed Media Butterfly Stand

Hello all! Ginny here!

I'm back today with my 1st project made with the June Mixed Media Kit from Tres Jolie! I loved these butterflies from Prima to alter!

I have done a photo tutorial of my process in creating this altered piece.

So lets start.....  :)

* I started with the Prima Matte Resins, I chose my butterfly to use with the stand.

*I gave the base a coat of gesso.

*To colour the butterfly and the base I used the Alcohol inks from the mixed media kit. 

*Put a drop of each colour on a craft sheet, I used some blending solution with the inks which makes them easier to use and then you get the blended/bleeding look.

*With a paint brush I roughly brushed over randomly the inks starting with the palest brown first and then the darker one to create a mottled effect. Drying slightly between each colour application

*When almost dry I then added the patina in various places over the top of the browns.

I added a little more of the alcohol ink to deepen the colour in places.

*I repeated this process with the stand.

*Also in the mixed media kit was the Magic Powder. I made a coloured paste with it and some beige acrylic pant and then added the paste in areas over the butterfly to add depth and texture.

*I cut some of the gorgeous green rhinestones from the kit and glued them on to the body of the butterfly. I added some cheesecloth to make the base of my embellishment cluster.

*I wanted to use some wording on my project, so I chose and cut out some words from the 13 Arts Paper All Good Things to use later.

*Now I built up the embellishment cluster using flowers and leaves from the June scrapbook kit, some smaller rhinestones cut into small lengths and draped over the cheesecloth and the leaves. Using some gel medium dabbed in places over the butterfly I then dropped some seed beads into it.

*I finished off with the cut out wording which I edged with some Viva Gold and then glued them onto the embellishment clusters.

*The base I did similarly with the cheesecloth first, then a leaf and flowers, gems and  wording.

*Lastly I used some more of the Viva Inka Gold from my own stash to the edges of the butterfly and to the antennae as well. 

*Gently push the butterfly onto the wire stand. There is a hole already in the base of the butterfly to do this.

Mixed Media Vintage Canvas

Good afternoon, 

Today I want to share with you a little mixed media canvas I created this past week with a little step  by step process. 

Let's start with this canvas then!........

I started with a 5x7 inch canvas

I used 3 different stencils with white sand texture paste......

adding patches with each stencil randomly over the canvas.

I used this lovely chipboard piece from Dusty Attic and painted it with gesso.

I chose 3 Prima  Color Bloom sprays to use on the canvas background

I started with the lightest, Tea Stain, then a touch of Sunshine and finished with the darkest, Antique Gold. Allow to run and wash over the texture paste and canvas and dry in between each colour application

On the dry chipboard piece I rubbed some Inka Gold with my finger around al the edges.

I added a pretty piece of lace down the left long side and then adhered the chipboard piece over the top. 

From the packaging of the Prima butterflies  I cut a circle big enough to fit my circle on the chipboard.  I inked the edge of the circle with distress ink.

My main embellishments were now added, the butterfly and the Prima Resin piece, which I have also rubbed over the high edges with the Inka gold. 

I used the 'make art' words from Wycnanka. these I painted with some brown acrylic paint

I added a metal corner piece ......

Now its gets fun adding the smaller details...... the painted chippie words, a metal pair of scissors.

I also added some grouped Prima pearls.

I then had fun with the micro beads. I dabbed the gel medium where I wanted the micro beads and then dropped them into it! These add wonderful detail, texture and shine!

The finishing touch was the addition of the Viva Precious Metal colour. This is the most gorgeous paint, so sparkly and just like liquid gold! Love it! 

Using a paint brush I brushed it over the edges of the canvas and some of the embellishments just to add a little extra sparkle!
