Notes & Thoughts... a masculine layout..

Hello all!

This is my last project this month for the October Scrapbook Kit at Tres Jolie Kits.

I have created a masculine page this time, I know most of the time I stick to the floral shabby chic style layout but I do like to do the occasional masculine layout, especially as I do have a son to scrap about!
I have used a reverse side of one of the beautiful papers in the kit... and I think this layout puts a completely different spin on this kit... looking at the kit photo you wouldn't think you could create a layout like this but you can!
Its always good to see how these beautiful kits can also be used for masculine layouts - don't forget the boys!!! LOL

I have photo process below for you to show you how I created this layout.

I started with the reverse of one of the floral 13Arts papers, I do love these black neutral papers, they are so easy to use for masculine pages. I did brush over some clear gesso to prepare the pare for lots of misting!
I used the Ayeeda mist in the kit over the background paper, I sprayed it and also undid the top and flicked the inner tube over the layout to get the splats.

The chipboard I altered using a VerDay Patina set. I used the Bronze colour, painted it over the chipboard and then added the patina solution in different places to create the mottled/ old metal effect over the chipboard. Allow to dry naturally.

Going back to the background paper now its dry, I used the stencil from the kit and added areas of white texture paste over the paper.

Next I splattered a lot of white gesso over the layout, spritzed it with water and picked the paper up upright and allowed all the liquids to 'run' on the paper. Dry with a heat tool.

Next I splattered some Color Bloom Antique Gold mist over the background. Again I take the lid out and use the inner tube to flick the colour over.

When dry I then rubbed some Viva Inka Gold over some of the raised texture paste areas with my finger.

The photo I layered up on 3 distressed patterned paper layers, all slightly off set to each other.
I inked the edges up with an archival ink,

Now its time to put the layout together. I placed the photo centrally and added the chipboard words from the 12x12 chipboard sheet - I loved that sheet! I left these chipboard words in their nude state.

The big chipboard scroll I cut into two - basically one piece was 2/3 rds. of the total chipboard piece and the part I cut off was 1/3rd of it.
I then slotted the bigger piece under the photo layers on the right  and the smaller piece in the photo layers on the left.

I added more chipboard words on top of the scroll and then added the blue and beige flowers from the kit! It still looks quite masculine though!

I added a little detail with items from my stash, some oval and teardrop druzzy beads and some seed beads. I just drop the seed beads into some gel medium and leave to dry.

I found these teal buttons whilst looking for the seed beads and thought they were perfect for the colour scheme so I added a couple of those under the layers too to finish the layout off.

Here are some close ups of the layout.....

'This is a Happy Day' ......

Welcome to another project using the Tres Jolie October Kit.

This kit features papers from 13 Arts and Prima Marketing with some beautiful embellishments, making this a beautiful kit to work with and to create some lovely pages full of memories!
This layout features my DD, another photo from our holiday in Cornwall.
We visited Padstow one day and did some crabbing in the harbour. Padstow is famous for Rick Stein's famous fish and chip shop and restaurant.
The harbour was lined with ladies doing hair braiding and of course Holly wanted her hair braided. Holly has really long hair so at a  pound an inch it was rather a lot of money! But having said that the braid lasted weeks and so she got her monies worth!!

I love using a mix of coloured and black and white photos on the same layout. The coloured photo on this layout has remained the focal point but then your eye drifts along into the black and white photo.
I dont know about you but sometimes I prefer my photos in black and white.
Here's a little tip, if you are struggling to find a photo to fit a coloured scheme or papers,  print your photo in black and white and it will go with any colour scheme/papers.

I used lots of layers on this layout.
I used 3 background papers. As I added each paper layer they got trimmed down a little smaller then the previous one so about a cm shows of each layer around the edge.
All the edges were then distressed.

The photos were layered up on their own distressed mat layer.
I used the card frame that came with the Prima flower set and cut the corners up and used these as layers and corners on some corners of the two photos.

You can also see that I did some faux stitching with a pen around the edge of these background paper layers.

The gorgeous lace just runs under the bottom edge of the photos.
I cut a small oval of  patterned paper to fit the silver frame and glued that it.

The title phrases are also distressed round the edges and had a little Toffee archival ink around the edges. These I curved and glued them onto the layout so they remained in a bowed position like a banner.

I added some of the journal cards as background photo layers too.....

I have added a couple of extra flowers from my stash to this layout as I do love flower overload!
The flower clusters were finished off with the pretty lace leaves and the rose buds from the kit.

'Beautiful Together' - Tres Jolie Kits

It's time for another layout for Tres Jolie Kit Club using their October Scrapbook kit.

This kit is full of gorgeous papers from 13 Arts and Prima Marketing. For this layout I used the 13 Arts papers.

I loved these 13 Arts floral papers, they are so pretty. The feature background paper I chose was a wood panelled floral paper. I cut the 12x12 paper down by a 1 cm on all sides and then cut along the wood panel sections, distressed all edges and stuck these 3 panels onto my other chosen background paper.

The two title pieces are from the 12 x 12 chipboard sheet.
I embossed these with a white embossing powder.

The leaves are also from the sheet and covered with the white embossing powder.

My distressed edges on the paper I inked with a 'Toffee' archival ink pad.
I also used some glass glitter (diamond dust) from my stash and added it in places over the flowers and around the flower clusters to add some sparkle to the layout.

My photo I mounted on a piece of  the Prima PP which was of course distressed and inked to.

The photo was then mounted on a piece of cardboard to 'lift' it off the layout, this left me somewhere to push my embossed chipboard leaves under. Photos always to me look better if the embellishments come from underneath the photo and some go over the photo, it blends the photo and embellishments together creating a much better effect.

On this layout I tilted the photo, I like this effect, the photo works well for this. The eye is drawn from the main focal point of Holly and I up to the rocks of Lands End in the background.
Lands End is the most southerly point in the UK at Cornwall and was from our summer holiday down there earlier this year.

Mixed Media Kit Canvas - Tres Jolie

Welcome to my second project of the month for Tres Jolie October Kit.

Today I thought I would share with you my Mixed Media Kit Project.

This month we had a lovely large square canvas and the gorgeous watercolours from Prima. What a treat to be able to create with these!

Here is the Mixed Media Kit

And so lets look at a few photos of how I created this canvas.

I only used a limited amount of colours for this canvas. I kept to all the pinks and paler colours through to the grey.
With a wide 3/4 inch paint brush I painted on the various colours one at a time in random spots over the background of the canvas, letting them blend and run together to create a marbled effect. Later I used a smaller brush to add some paint splats.

The water colour paint are so easy to use. I start them off with a spray of water to activate them and use them from the individual pots, I also use the palette tray in the lid, to blend some of the colours together and to add more water to get a really watery mixture going for a 'wash'.

The chipboard pieces were in the scrapbook kit. These I simply covered with a white embossing powder.

I used the journal card sheet, cut them all up individually, distressed the edges and backed them onto a piece of light 12x12 paper from the scrapbook kit and distressed those too.

I fussy  cut these flower clusters out from one of the 13 Arts papers

I splatted some of the metallic paint on the background

Now to layer up the design.  I used some cardboard behind some of the journal cards to 'lift' them up. This enabled me to slot under the chipboard pieces.

Next came the flowers and the fussy cut floral pieces.  Again I only used the pink flowers from the selection in the mixed media kit.

I used one of the silver metal frames from the scrapbook kit and added a cut piece of patterned paper to the inside. I then covered the paper with a thick layer of crackle glaze. This was slid into the card layers too.

Lastly I then splattered the paler metallic paint over the entire canvas and tipped the edges of the flowers with the metallic paint too.

Here are some close ups of the finished canvas....
