It's time for the final Case File of the Year for CSI - Color Stories Inspiration!

And also my last on the CSI Design Team.

I have had an amazing time with my fellow DT members but its time for a break and something new. 

So here we go with Case File 244

I used Kaisercraft Christmas Basecoat for this layout.

I love this Tim Holtz Tinsel, I have been hoarding for years and used it with small wooden pegs to 'hang' my photo from.

I then added buttons to it to decorate.

The design of this layout is based on layers, lots of torn layers, using the colour scheme from the case file and fussy cut elements pine tree elements for the 'tree' part of the Case File.

A brand new sketch at Lets Get Sketchy.....

Good Morning everyone!

Here we are with the latest sketch from Let's Get Sketchy for the October 15th challenge!

Here is my DT inspiration for you based on the sketch. I turned the sketch around to best suit my the elements I wanted to use in the layout and my one photo. 

And here is the October 15th sketch.....

Now for some details on this layout.

For this layout I have used papers from various brands. My background paper I love! This Denim paper is from Kaisercraft Indigo Skies collection. 

My other favourite is the book paper, from Authentique. There are more details on products if you scroll further down the post.

I cut a section of the book paper out that I wanted to use and then separated all the books by cutting around them and then distressing the edges. I then glued them onto the layout placing them back together in the original order.

I layered onto a piece of Julie Nutting script paper and the whole main feature is layered onto a torn triangle from another Authentique paper to keep to the basic sketch design. 

My layers I have 'lifted' by using cardboard strips ( or foam tape) to give some dimension and also somewhere to push my embellishments under. These incluse some paper script book pages, dotty paper flowers and some journal cards.

I used some texture paste in the background with a couple The Crafters Workshop stencils.

And finished off with some gold druzy stones and some rustic jump rings to keep a bit off a masculine feel, together with the words from the Kaisercraft paper name strip. Lastly a pin and ticket from Tim Holtz to complement my flower - there had to be a flower!

Mid Month challenge at Scrap Our Stash

Hello, its time for the second part of my Guest Designer Spot here at Scrap Our Stash for July!

I am back with my layout for July Sketch challenge using the word ‘FIREWORKS’.

I really enjoyed creating the layout for this sketch!

And here is the super sketch that inspired it!

The July Sketch is teamed up with the word ‘FIREWORKS’. The idea is to use a stash item for each letter of the word FIREWORKS. Here are my stash items I used for each of the letters: -

I really enjoyed doing this one, my colours were inspired from a colour combo photo I had seen, so after rummaging through my papers I came up with these Kaisercraft papers 50 Cents, these gorgeous patterns look fabulous layered up. I do love to add a little mixed media to my layouts and this one has a little! I created the background ‘circle’ from the sketch with gesso applied with a palette knife. I have a rhinestone circle on top of that. My chipboard title was altered with embossing powder. My edges have all been distressed and inked with Frayed Burlap, and in the background, I have added mists and seed beads. The layout is finished off with the flowers clusters, buttons, rosette and wood icons. The ‘outdoor’ photo is my DD riding a few years ago, we used to trundle through the lanes picking flowers as we went!

I had these sweet little wooden rocking horses in my stash from a wood icon Christmas collection but thought they worked perfectly for this LO!

The gorgeous shabby teal buttons are from my bead stash, I actually had these to make jewellery with but they just seemed to scream at me to use on here!

I have used wound up ribbons and twines in my embellishment clusters to add texture and detail with the rosette and the Petaloo flowers.

Here you can see the rhinestone circle with the grit paste stencilled dots and antique Gold mist in the background. The seed beads also add a little bit of extra colour and detail.

Applying the gesso with a palette knife like I have on the background circle on this layout gives a completely different look compared to brushing it on with a paint brush or doing something with a stencil.

I do love this Kaisercraft collection 50 Cents. I loved the colours mixed with the browns from the pony I the photo and highlighted with some extra Teal. The patterns on the papers gives a lovely country feel too! You can also see the Izink splats in this photo too.

This is the embossed title, whilst heating the black embossing powder I dropped the gold frantage into it so it melted and blended together at the same time.

My layers are popped up with cardboard which enabled me to be able to push the wood icon borders into the layers for full effect.

***Sketch Challenge at Swirlydoos Kit Club***

"Hello" crafty friends!

Another day and another layout. :)

Today I want to share with you my layout for the sketch challenge at Swirlydoos Kit Club.

I am loving the sketches that Kim is creating for the Swirlydoos monthly sketch challenges and I particularly enjoyed the design of this one!

My layout as been created with 98%  products from previous  Swirlydoos Kit club  Kits.

and now to show you the sketch....

So as you can see I have used a oblong frame rather then an oval frame. This wooden frame from a previous swirlydoos kit was simply painted with a couple of coats of gesso.

In the top right hand corner of the sketch there is a small frame. the one I added to my layout is made with a Martha Stewart mould with Ice Resin, the Ice Resin is also from a previous Technique it Add on kit from Swirlydoos.

The brick work I created with a Stencil and my favourite Distress Grit paste.

I also used a Finnabair small background clear stamp, crackle effect in my background, painted the stamp gently with gesso and stamped with it to get the white crackle over the background. I then splattered over the background with some black acrylic paint.

The title is a Heidi Swapp acetate word. I used a clear glue to adhere this to the page, just adding a dot of the glue on the extreme edges of the word.

My two beautiful focal point flowers are by EK Success. They have a very pretty floral print which had all the colours on them that I was using on my layout. I mixed these in with some Petaloo black burlp flowers.

The only items used on this layout that are not from a previous Swirlydoos kit are the dusky blue paper roses and the pale sky blue apple blossoms flowers from Wild Orchid Crafts.

The quote in the small frame I cut out from a card in the Collectables pack and glued  to back of the frame.

I used some seed beeds to add a  different type of texture and a high light colour. These are stuck to the layout using gel medium.

The finishing touch in the flower clusters are the very delicate Butterfly laser cuts from BoBunny. These I left untreated and poked them into the flower layers.

May Challenge Entries

Good evening all!

I so enjoyed doing my layout for the More than Words challenge last month I decided to enter this months challenge as well!

And this one is so up my street, the word inspiration is 'Mother' and then the theme is Flowers! What could be more perfect then that for a flower loving girl like me?!

I have also teamed this layout up with the Scrap The Girls Challenge also with the theme 'Mothers'.

Now for a little info on my creating!

My photo is of my Mum ❤ She is pictured here visiting a beautiful garden over the winter with the most amazing backdrop of plants and flowers. I rummaged through my patterned papers for the right papers and found these perfect papers from Kaisercraft called Treasured Moments. The forest green and deep raspberry colours matched the background colours of the photo so well.

Obviously it had to be flower overload, I have created this effect with fussy cut flowers and a selection of flowers from Wild Orchid crafts.

After that I had a bit of fun with some mixed media!

This Dusty Attic Chipboard flourish is two pieces layered up and then embossed with the magenta embossing powder. This powder is lovely, it has glitter pieces in it so is really sparkly but also when its heated bits of it go slightly white which gives a lovely effect. I have noticed this with other colours from the range, not sure if it happens from over heating or is meant to happen but either way I love it!  

The other piece of chipboard, the doily, I embossed most of it again with the magenta but left alternate parts of the pattern bare so when the chippie had been finished heat embossed and cooled I could glue the bare parts and add the Army Green glitter. The doily I then cut in half and used in two places on my layout. 

My edges were all distressed with my Prima distress tool.

I used two types of flowers from Wild Orchid crafts, these are paper flowers, the small Gypsophila comes in several different colours and these two pinky ones matched perfectly with my layout.

I spent a long tie fussy cutting the flowers, a little time consuming but worth it. I gives a great backdrop for the rest of the embellishments

I firstly designed the main area of my layout with the photo, photo layers and where my fussy cutting as going to go but not attaching it to the background paper. This gave me my design shape to work with for adding my mixed media background on my background paper. 

I used a wide dry paint brush to dry brush/smudge some gesso over the design area.   I then used the Distress grit paste to do my stencilling with. I love this stuff, its so easy to work with, gives a fabulous texture and it dries a lot quicker then normal texture paste.

After attaching the main design (I popped this up on some cardboard or use foam tape/pads) to the dried mixed media background and paper I slotted the doily chipboard into the two corners under the photo mount layers. then I built the rest of the design up on top with the flourish chipboard swirl and the flowers.

I added some gesso splats all over the layout then too.

Lastly I added some Frantage fragments mixed with some pink Art Sugar with some gel medium in a few areas around the layout.

The flowers I used on top and poke underneath my fussy cut layers to help create the depth to the layout. My fussy cut sentiment was inked with the Rose Bud chalk ink pad.
