April Mini Card Challenge ***Swirlydoos***

Hello!

Another day another challenge!
I did this challenge whilst I was away recently at my mothers as it was a simpler project to transport on a train then a load of mixed media products for a layout into a small suitcase! I could maybe have done a simpler layout without mixed media but I was quite excited and inspired to do something different for a change and this was the perfect opportunity.

Bec's card challenge at Swirlydoos for April is a set of Mini Cards.

My cards ended up a little bigger then I had at first planned but this was because by the time I had decided what features and dies I wanted to use the card HAD to be a certain size to fit them on! They are however smaller then a regular card or indeed any card I would normally do!
I do have to confess to rummaging through my Mothers die collection too! Its always exciting to use something of somebody else's, something you haven't got, something new!

So lets get on with it! Here are my cards.....

These are simple styled cards constructed using layers. They measure 8 x 13 1/2cms. The card itself is made from White Centura Pearl cardstock from Crafters Companion. This card has a lovely shimmery sheen to it.
The backing paper is a paper from the Prima Marketing 'Ledger' 12x12 pad. I rounded the corners with a corner punch and inked the edges with Distress Ink Walnut Stain. Before sticking to the card blank I wrapped a pretty piece of ribbon around the paper with the ends stuck neatly underneath the background paper.

The pretty tag was cut out using a piece of pink and white dotty paper from my stash and again inked with the Walnut Stain ink and glued to the card over the top of the ribbon.
The cameo heads were cut out using plain white cardstock. The cameos have been mounted on thin foam pads just to lift them slightly of the tag and were not inked.

The two dies I used on my page were:

Marianne Dies - Decorative Tags
Marianne Dies - Lord and Lady

The simple embellishment cluster was some dusty rose coloured twine tied into bows with 1 white blossom flower and an arrangement of 4 tiny pink flowers. The cards were then finished off with some Nuvo Crystals drops in Antique Rose in the corners.

Products used on these cards

Crafters Companion: Centura Pearl Cardstock; white

More Than Words April challenge

Hello all!

I really enjoyed doing this one!
I've been eyeing this challenge up all month and I've finally got around to doing a layout for it! I loved this colour scheme!

This is my layout for the More Than Words April challenge.

This months brief was colours,  'Black and White plus 1'
and the word was 'Dream'.

So all this is fairly obvious with my layout. I included a pale blush colour in with my black and white which gave my layout a soft pretty look and matched DD's dress. The word Dream can be interpreted several ways to me with this layout, I hope all my daughters dreams come true, I often wonder what it is she dreams about, sometimes she looks in a dream world all of her own! So an apt title - 'Dreams'.

Here are some close up details and product list....

This mixed media layout started with some gesso brushed over my design area on the background paper. I then sponged circles of more gesso around the edge of the brushed gesso with a circular sponge applicator to soften the edge and add detail with the circle shapes.

I used layers of strips of paper cut different sizes and added in different directions over the top of the gesso from the paper collection 'White Truffle' by Hot of the Press. Then I added layers of torn strips of  3 different washi tapes. Over the top of that went the stencilling with distress grit paste and the mini harlequin stencil.

The Dusty Attic chippie word 'Dreams' was simply painted with a couple of coats of gesso.

My embellishments included some leaves and flowers and the circular frames made from Martha Stewart moulds with white paper clay.

The addition of some beautiful Prima flowers, strips of lace, the shabby wood hearts and the seed beads added to the shabby chic, soft romantic feel.

And over the top of all this was a splattering of watered down gesso.
When making a layout like this I do mostly use my hot glue gun to attach the heavier and bulkier embellishments, the seed beads and lace with a gel medium and the papers and photos with double sided tape.

Products used on this layout:

Hot of the Press: White Truffle 12x12 paper pad
Dusty Attic chipboard: Word Pack #4 DA1077z
Live & Love Crafts: Lace and Shabby Wood Hearts
Wild Orchid Flowers: Ivory Sweetheart Blossoms
Selection of 3 Washi Tapes
Gesso / sponge applicator
Mat Gel/ glue gun
Seed Beads
Martha Stewart: Silicone Moulds - Maple Leaf/ Flowers/ Circular frame
Martha Stewart: White paper clay
The Crafters Workshop: Stencil: Mini Harlequin
Prima Marketing: Flowers: Seashore #574949

I hope you like this one as much as I do!
Thank you for stopping by

Have a great day!

An Easter Layout!

Hello all!

Today I am sharing an Easter layout with a photo of me and the kids doing a 'selfie' over the Easter
holidays.

Here are some close ups and details.

This bunny and egg die from Joanna Sheen was perfect for my Easter layout and made a fun element for it!

I used up some scraps of pretty patterned papers, rounded the edges with a corner punch and distressed the edges. I used a Martha Stewart order punch on two sides of the background paper.
In this photo you can see the punched border, chevron paper and the bunnies for one of the challenges below.

I love these straws I have used here. I cut each straw into two and added to either side of the layout to balance it. The glitter alphas from Dovecraft were perfect for the title.

I used some mist splats in the background with some BoBunny crystals.

Products Used on this layout:

Heidi Swapp: Sugar Chic: Remember
My Minds Eye: The Sweetest Thing: Honey 'one of a kind' Notable

Let's Get Sketchy April 15th Challenge

Hello All!

So today is the official start date of the new members of the Lets Get Sketchy Design team!
Woo Hoo!! I am so excited to get going!

We have several new members on the design team a well as some returning members.
To keep up with our fortnightly challenges as they go live, please follow the Let's Get Sketchy Blog which can be found here: Let's Get Sketchy.

Don't forget we can also be found on Facebook here: Facebook Let's Get Sketchy.

So shall we get on with the April 15th challenge?
You are in for a treat because I've actually got 2 layouts for this sketch - keep reading down the post for both of them!

Here is the sketch

For this challenge we have a Mood Board to go with the sketch.

I absolutely loved the colours in this mood board.
My layout was inspired by the colours in the paint pots. Here it is!

I used a older American crafts paper line called Dear Lizzy 5th & Frolic for this layout. The colours in the papers were perfect for this mood board. I used the circles from the sketch to feature several of the different papers in this line.
You can also see the little drawing pins inked in the corners from the Prima Stamp set.

I inked the edges of the circles with the Rose Bud ink pad, which I also dabbed the tops of the flowers too.
I used some mists to create the ink splats in the background

The Scrapberry's pearl flourish I cut up into lots of smaller pieces to place around my layout in my embellishment clusters.

These photos of my DS and DD just make me laugh whenever I look at them!
We were on a steam train ride and Mummy (me) wanted a lovely photo of my gorgeous children together on the train to remember the day by........ DS didn't want to have his photo taken with his sister and the face says it all! Eventually I did get some smiles although they were distracted!

Products I used on this layout were:

American crafts: Dear Lizzy: 5th & Frolic: Bowtie
American crafts: Dear Lizzy: 5th & Frolic: Boulevard
American crafts: ear Lizzy: 5th & Frolic: Summer Sheen

Some of you may notice that this sketch was also the sketch that was part of the Design team call for Let's get Sketchy.

So now I want to show you the layout I created for the DT call. The sketch came without the mood
board and so we have a completely different colour scheme for this one and I have created the circles in different ways.

On this layout my circles were created mostly by stamping. I used some stitched circle stamps and some circular motif stamps in Archival Coffee ink, finished off by using the flowers and the boat steering wheel as my final circular elements.

Again I have used some ink splats in the background ....

..... and a pearl flourish cut up and added over the layout.

I matted my photos, of me and Holly off on our Brownie Holiday last year, on two layers of patterned paper.

I used some chain and a metal button to further embellish it

The boat steering wheels were fussy cut out of the patterned papers

***Sketch challenge at Swirlydoos***

Hello everyone!

Today I want to share with you my layout for the  Sketch Challenge over at Swirlydoos Kit Club.

And here is the Sketch created by Kim!

Lets show you some details and close ups!

The Wycinanka frames I simply painted white with gesso. I actually cut one frame into 2 and poked them in at the top and the bottom.

I used some scraps of other pattered paper to use as my layers under my photo. The oily paper is a scrap from a Kaisercraft paper.

I don't know the manufacturers name of the stencil unfortunately but I used it with white texture paste. I also used some Maya Gold blue splattered in the background. The tips of the white paper roses was also rubbed over with some Maya Gold.

I used the Jillibean Word tiles as my title and inked the edges.

The butterfly was rubbed over with the Inka Gold and then I smudged some Maya Gold into it in places and added a little gesso. It was finished of with some pearls.
